Study of Clouds by Sally Parrott Ashbrook

Study of Clouds by Sally Parrott Ashbrook

After selling a couple of prints in the last couple of weeks without trying, and after winning Best in Show in the recent juried photography exhibition I entered in Atlanta, I realized I should create an online gallery to put a few of my photos for sale publicly. (The one featured above is part of a series of photographs I took that I converted to look like paintings.)

And after I won a great little painting in a giveaway on Patti Davis’s blog Circle Everything, my turn arrived to pay it forward, as well, by giving away a piece of my art on my blog.

So this post is notice of two things:

1. Prints of about 30 of my photographs are now available for sale through my website—at 12×18″ and 8×10″, unframed or matted and framed.  You can view my gallery page by following this link. (You can always go to sallyashbrook.com, then ‘photography,’ then ‘prints for sale’ to get back to it as well.)  I would really appreciate it if you would not only check my photos out, but also forward the info on to any friends, family, coworkers, etc. you think might like my prints.  (They can make great gifts, of course!)  I’ll be removing and adding prints from the choices about every two months, so if there’s one you just love, now’s the time to get it.  You can also see prints for sale from my husband at his photography site, which you can also visit by just using the url www.burx.com.  I’m just as happy for him to make a sale as I am to make one myself! I love the idea of either of our artwork hanging in someone’s abode or business.

2. My husband and I are giving away one matted and framed, 12×18″ (or 8×10″, if the winner prefers) print from the photography available on our sites—a $185 value. (If you’re outside the continental US, you can still win, but unfortunately it’s much harder for us to ship you a framed print at that distance, so we’ll send you just the print, unframed, if you win.)  You can enter to win one of two ways.   For one entry into the drawing, leave a comment on this post telling me the title of the print you’d like to win along with your city/state or country.  For two extra entries into the drawing, write a post with a link back directing other people to this post, and including in your post (if you know how) a copy of the (already shrunk) image you want if you win. (We retain the copyright to all images, of course. We just give you permission to use one of our images, with credit, in one blog post.)  We’ll draw a winner at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10th.  We will make sure that we ship the print to the winner quickly so that it will arrive to the winner by Christmas or Hannukah, in case the winner wants to give it as a gift.

Good luck, and happy shopping! (And thanks for spreading the word for me.)

    Nice idea!

I would like Duet of Flowers for my dining/kitchen area. I could paint something for myself but it’s so much nicer to have someone else’s art (in my humble opinion).

This is unrelated bragging, but I thought you’d appreciate it! I’m selling my handpainted jewelry at a local holiday art sale and a friend who owns a gallery and works for a local paper is writing a story about my hand-painted jewelry. I’m so excited! I’ve never had this kind of attention before. When she was interviewing me I kept thinking ‘Uhh–wow. I’m so boring’. I e-mailed her a bunch more info and pics afterward because I’d felt so self conscious during the interviewing process that I wasn’t sure how I came across.

Thanks for the great site, photographs and everything. I will spread the word. In fact, I’ll include a link to your photos on my LiveJournal.

I love your photos, Sally, but the one I’m coveting the most is the Eiffel Tower print from your husband’s site. I was a French major, and I’ve never been to France, but I love to dream! I’ve also posted about this on my blog: http://cheesatarian.blogspot.com/2008/11/enter-to-win.html

Osaka Overpass. Osaka is one of my husband’s favorite cities and I just love this photo.

    Thanks for the opportunity.

I’m going to go post on my blog and hopefully get the pic in the post!

They’re all really lovely, Sally! I think my favorite is “Once Beloved.” I’m fascinated by old houses, and the title seems to fit perfectly here.

Thanks for the contest and paying it forward! :)

I love your blog. Congratulations on the web sales.
I would LOVE to see Ferns Unfurling on the wall of my home office… it’s enough to make me actually want to be in there!
Thanks for the opportunity, and I’ll let you know when I make my blog post!

what a generous offering. My favorites are the old church in switzerland and the colored photo of the eiffel tower with the midst floating at the top.

Nicephotos and lots of traveling — how lucky!

  • 9 Leslie // Nov 25, 2008 at 9:22 am

Oh wow, so hard to choose! I would have to say either Big Ben, Melrose Abbey, or Rainier in Clouds, and let you choose if I’m lucky enough to be chosen.

    Beautiful work!

Oh, very exciting! I think I would like to win Silhouetted Trees & Clouds painting. I live in Oakland, California. (Do I get extra entries in the drawing for following the directions perfectly?)

    Good luck to everyone!

  • 11 Amanda // Nov 25, 2008 at 2:57 pm

I just love Melrose Abbey. (It was a tough choice, I almost picked Atlanta Coal Cars)

Atlanta, GA (just in case you didn’t know! haha)

  • 16 Bee // Nov 26, 2008 at 12:52 am

I love your pictures! I always see what I want to take but it does not turn out the way I saw it. Not that I am any kind of professional nor do I do it often to become one…Thanks again for a wonderful post, I had been waiting with bated breath then got busy and when I came back there were 2! yay! I wish I could choose a picture and win but I am afraid I am toooo far away for you to send being in the Micronesian Island of Palau but still I will say I like Multnomah in Late Afternoon, Ferns Unfolding, and Retired Train in Fall —colors are wow. Happy Thanksgiving early -its tomorrow for us and though we are not USA we were US Trust Territory and very western for it…Bee

  • 19 Kim // Nov 26, 2008 at 1:39 pm

    Sally,

I am so proud of you!! I love these photos and I think that this giveaway is an amazing idea!!

Now - for my officially entry to win - after much deliberation I think I’ve narrowed it down to my top 3. Do I really have to just pick one??? :) Ok, ok, I’ll say Tokyo Tower at Night. :)

    sally:
beautiful pictures! i had a hard time deciding which one(s) i liked best, until i stumbled upon your “Columbia River Scene” picture. . .i L-O-V-E it! i grew up in Eastern Washington right next to the Columbia and spent many a happy summer in a boat on the river.

oh, and my blog post is up! thanks for the opportunity.

    happy Thanksgiving!

Your (plural) work is beautiful. My first choice would be your husband’s Sunset in Osaka. However, his Heian Jingu garden and your Pacific Beach were just as inspirational.

    Sally,
Both you and Dan are so talented. If I weren’t so stunned by your work, I’d be sickly jealous of you both. “Strolling Man” is my absolute favorite. I blogged about it here: .

  • 26 Ashley // Nov 29, 2008 at 3:29 pm

    Whoops!
    My blog about “Strolling Man”.

  • 27 Jenn // Dec 1, 2008 at 6:46 pm

Okay, this was ridiculously difficult. In addition to making up my own mind, I also had to consult with Dan for his opinion, and since we often have totally different tastes, we could barely agree on one (though we both loved many of them). I’ll have to cast my lot for Winery at Sunset–I love the array of colors, and it’s the kind of photo I’d love to look at often and wish myself there. I also cast honorable mention votes for Flooded Wine Cellar, both Rhone Glacier shots (love them!), Driftwood Beach, Duet of Flowers, Pipes, Heian Jingu garden, and Notre Dame. I’m posting a link on my blog, too. You both take such beautiful photographs!

  • 28 Jenn // Dec 1, 2008 at 10:06 pm

Oops, forgot to follow directions and list my location (St. Louis, Missouri).

  • 29 Liz // Dec 2, 2008 at 12:49 pm

You are quite the renaissance woman Sally. I am so impressed with your words, photography and passion. My favorite, though difficult to chose just one it:

    “Rainer in Clouds”

I live just outside of Boston, MA.

  • 30 Fran // Dec 2, 2008 at 6:15 pm

You are both very talented. “Ferns Unfurling” really caught my eye. Something very symbolic in it.

  • 31 Ken // Dec 3, 2008 at 7:52 pm
