In the process of figuring out what comes next in my new life in Santa Monica (whew), I’ve undertaken a project: to make (and often create) sixty recipes in sixty days. And in the process, I’ll be blogging about making food and making allergen-free/gluten-free ingredient substitutions and figuring out life. There’s an in-depth explanation of my project purpose on that blog’s About page; if you enjoy Aprovechar, you will probably enjoy my 60in60 blog. I would appreciate it greatly if you’d stop by and leave a comment or (if it interests you) sign up for my feed.
I made my first recipe of the sixty days on Monday, and it’s a recipe for gluten-free, egg-free, soy-free, dairy-free buns! Specifically, I made hamburger buns, though the buns are delicious and will, I feel confident, prove versatile. (I ate half of another as the bread for my ‘cheese’ toast this morning. I plan to make them next time as sweet buns of some sort.)
So pop on over! It’s entirely possible that I’ll be posting here again during the duration of my project, but with me writing a post a day over there, I probably won’t be here often.

Great blog! I am seriously considering going gluten free and was wondering if you had any advice for me? Thanks!

Wow, I’m behind on my blog-reading! I just realized that you have moved VERY close to me…I live at the beach in Venice. Would love to FB friend you and hook up for a beach walk or coffee. Going to look for you now. Welcome to Cali (a bit late)!

Hi Sally,
I just wanted to drop a quick line… I couldn’t help relating to you - this past year I was FINALLY diagnosed with multiple food allergies (barley, rice, wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, cola nut, mango, cassava / tapioca, and possibly a few couple that the test didn’t cover).
My doctor(s) did multiple tests for 2 years and couldn’t figure it out - (they eventually gave up and said it was probably just IBS and I’d have to live with it!) - so I went to a naturopath and she suggested testing for allergies!
But finally here I am - I have an answer! And like you - with no diet plan - just avoiding my allergies, I’ve lost an incredible amount of weight!
I’ve dropped from a size 18 to an 8 and lost about 100lbs in the past year!
When I developed the allergies my body seemed to swell all over - I had gained weight - even though I wasn’t overeating. With my symptoms, I should have been losing weight…
Did you have a hard time getting diagnosed? I was seeing gastro-intestinal ’specialists’ and I would have thought they would be ‘up’ on that sort of thing and connect it…
I was wondering if it unusual and if you hear of that sort of thing often (being a sort of ‘hub’ in that you have a website relating too the subject of food allergies)… (and the reading I’ve been doing seems to indicate that food allergies are grossly under- and mis- diagnosed)
Thank you very much for your time, energy, and effort, your blog, and your recipes!
BTW - tried to email this but it got bounced back - do you have a new email?
